I'm glad I got past the first page or two. I picked this book up on recommendation from friends, and when the first page of the first chapter was half adjectives, I cringed. I think I'm still scarred from reading over-described dreck like Lawhead's Hood. I put the book down. Then a few months later, I was in the mood for urban fantasy, so I picked it up again, and was pleasantly surprised. Once I got past the initial clunkiness, the characters and their stories, and the novelty of the setting (at least to me) sucked me in. It was a fairly quick read. I can tell you from experience that peeping at the ending, in this case, won't help you a lot, unless you read at least the whole last chapter or two. I had peeped (a very bad habit of mine) at the last page or so, and feeling safe, continued reading. But the further on I read, the more I was unsure how Marr would come up with a satisfying ending. But she did. not perfect. clearly there's several more books, so if everything was too neat and tidy, there'd be nothing else to write about. The book is darkly mesmerizing. I wouldn't like to known the faerie described in this book, including Keenan and Donia (as a side note, does every story about fairies have a Niall in it?), much less Beria. Aislinn is a fine heroine, and Seth was a nice guy. too nice, for him to feel realistic. that's right. in a book about fairies, and the ability to see them, I'm more concerned at the realism of a ridiculously nice guy. He never asserted anything for himself. All he wanted was Aislinn and to be with Aislinn, and serve her, and it just seemed weird after awhile. didn't he have a life other than her? feel ANY resentment about the situation she unwittingly dragged him into, much less fear for himself in such a dreadful setting? so, despite Marr's protests in the notes at the end of the book, I don't think Seth is very realistic. He's nice, though. Much like the book. It was good. unrealistic. fun reading. I am not rushing out to read the others. Much like with the Hunger Games, I'm not sure they will be as satisfying as the first books. Maybe I'll get around to them someday. For now, this book is just fine on its own.

Bu kitaptan çok zevk aldım. Ses sürümünü dinledim. Anlatı yapan insanlar harikaydı. Sesler mükemmeldi. Sizi hikayeye dahil etti. Kitap versiyonunu da okumayı planlıyorum. 1960 başlarında anlatılan öykü, güney ailelerine yardım etmek için çalışan iki negro kadın ve bir kitapta beyaz ailelerle çalışma hikayelerini paylaşmalarını isteyen beyaz kadın hakkında. Abilene benim en sevdiğim karakterdi. Büyüdüğümde onun gibi birinin bana bakmasını diledi.
