This book takes place on the other side of the world in Afganistain. Its a girls point of view during the Islamic revolution when the fundamentalists took over. She goes through a lot first her father gets taken away. Then the soilders come into there home and trash there stuff and beat her mother. Once that happens there is no longer anyone in the family that can go outside and earn the money for there needs. In order to keep her family alive The main Character (Parvana) Decides to descise herself as a boy and resume what her father started.
Alice Hoffman is an incredible writer. Her use of imagery is BRILLIANT as ALWAYS. I liked this book, well enough, but I found it just a bit predictable. I also found her to repeat "factual" information, regarding the history of Unity and the Sparrow family, to the point of annoyance. The authoress left a lot of loose ends in regards to the relationships between characters and the consequences of their choices. The story-line could have been woven together a bit more cohesively, in my opinion, and some aspects were just too far-fetched to be believable. Overall a good read but not one of my favorites.
