I don’t want to discourage anyone from reading this book, I enjoyed it and it’s a pretty good page-turner, but I am going to tell you what I didn’t like about it. The time-line was difficult to follow and seldom seemed accurate for what was talking place. I’m certain the time-line of the baby Jacob from pregnancy to current was really off. And there were other instances as well. Minutes turned into hours, hours turned into days and days into weeks frequently in a confusing page or two that was difficult at times to follow. And I never figured out what the title meant. Other than that it was good, there was sufficient character development and plenty of intrigue, and certainly the topic is timely and relevant. I even got weepy at the end because I had fallen in love with the strength of this family who had struggled so to keep…. Well you just need to read it and fall in love with them too. What if? What would you do?
My sister is a huge fan of Pam Houston....so when I saw the book, I grabbed it. I totally understand why my sister likes her writing--- single woman photographer in search of a man--- hiking, sailing....gets a dog, lives in a log cabin....can't get any more perfect for my sister. The book is good, but the character is not my style.....her life revolves too much around men. I enjoyed hearing about her photography....but her trips are a bit boring.
