Here I am finally catching up with the international phenomenon that was Bridget Jones! Argh! Ever behind. This book is quite funny....I have to confess that truly I haven't laughed out loud yet...although I do like it. It's not the funniest stuff I've ever read but that may partly be due to the fact that I feel a darker streak running through Fielding's work. There are times when I'm certain I'm supposed to be guffawing at Bridget's apparent lack of composure and I feel bad for her instead. Some of this "humor" hits a little too close to home to be funny for me. That being said...I'm still enjoying it. I feel pretty motivated to not be Bridget. This book is inspirational in a negative sort of way. I like to be given those sudden boosts of energy, the "get off your duff" push that I need. On the other hand, one of the things I like best about this author is her ability to get inside the female mind and then describe what she sees there on paper. I am reading this aloud with my husband and we're both enjoying the fact that Fielding has the words to explain many a sticky thought.
