Brilliant, provocative, complex, atmospheric, dark, magical . . .
Marcelo was a beautifully drawn character--socially awkward but highly self aware. His moral dilemmas felt real.
Great TV series and fantastic music, so someone thought I would like the book. Does not add to the former. A bit dry and factual unless you are a military enthusiast. Most significant fact I found was that this crack airborne regiment of very brave men had two years training before they were actually sent to war on D-Day. Then they were taken out for a rest after a month of fighting. They were actually fighting for about 6 months in the whole war though in very dangerous areas like Arnhem and Bastogne. Then the regiment was disbanded.Obviously a very different life from ordinary soldiers!
