Came across this series by a fluke. Free reading lead this one to me, and I just could not get enough!

surprisingly easy to read for a nonfiction historical book....henry viii arguably created the strong central government which eventually led to the modern english and american government. this details his life and those of his six wives (2 divorced, 2 beheaded, 1 died after childbirth, 1 outlived him). interesting overview of how women were treated and dealt with power at the turn of the 16th century.

This is one of the prettiest books I've ever read. Chabon is the modern author who can best pull off the popular "pull eleven details out of a hat and put them in a setpiece" style of writing, and he's excellent at it. His style is difficult to imitate and other authors of the day make it look as hard as it probably is. Chabon's pretty good at his job.
