This book was so much more than just a memoir. It was a reminder, especially for women to not take for granted some simple freedoms that we have. Our basic rights, the ones that we sometimes come to expect as a given are not everyone's rights everywhere. This book reminds us of that. In an eloquent and interesting way. Through the eyes of English Literature majors. It also reminds me that I haven't read enough of the classics and it's taught me to think of those same classics in a different and unique way.
Never have I loved living somewhere as much as I love living in the Pacific Northwest. This book talked of my very own love of a PNW beach, of finding something strange and beautiful, and wondering at the miraculous ability to be surprised each and every time I explore a low tide.
